Boys & Girls Club Youth Provide a Community Thanksgiving Feast

On Wednesday, November 26th ,  the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford held their Third Annual Community Thanksgiving Feast.  Youth and staff from the Boys & Girls Club provided a Thanksgiving  meal for approximately 300 of their fellow community members.  Decorating, cooking and other preparations for the meal began on Monday and Tuesday with youth, volunteers and staff working  together in the kitchen that was generously refurbished by The Kiwanis Club in 2011.  Executive Director, Mike Cotela states, “Once again, the community really pulled together to help make this event possible.  We are grateful for the generous  contributions and volunteer hours from  Avanti Enterprises, Nestle Waters, Bimbo Bakeries USA, Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation,  Fairway Market, Signature Construction,  Edgehill Senior Living Community, St. Lukes School, SBC Restaurant & Brewery and Comet Technologies USA.”  Cotela continues, “ Everyone deserves to have a thanksgiving dinner and we are happy to be able to help provide this celebration for our community”.

Many of these youth have been participating in Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Triple Play Healthy Habits Nutrition program.  This program includes a nutrition curriculum, daily fitness activities, volunteer activities at Fairgate Farm and weekly culinary arts activities.  The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford is committed to providing a healthy lifestyle and a pathway to a great future.  Mike Cotela, Executive Director, states “This is a tremendous example of our Boys & Girls Club youth working to improve their community and help provide for those less fortunate”.
