STAMFORD, Conn., Jan. 22, 2013 ─ First County Bank employees recently donated $3,126 as part of an effort to raise money for the Sandy Hook School Support Fund. That amount was then matched by the First County Bank Foundation for a total of $6,252.
“I'd like to thank everyone who participated in making this effort a great success. I also would like to note that the good work everyone does at First County Bank allows the bank to have a robust foundation giving us an opportunity to respond to immediate and critical needs in our community,” said Rey Giallongo, chairman and CEO of First County Bank. “The heartbreaking tragedy in Newtown will be with us forever but you can take some solace in knowing we are helping to heal in our own way.”
First County Bank employees raised the money in less than a week. “Our employees rallied around the cause and their contributions are a testament to their concerns for the parents, children, teachers and citizens of Newtown, Connecticut,” said Katherine Harris, president of First County Bank.
In response to the Newtown/Sandy Hook tragedy, United Way of Western Connecticut in partnership with Newtown Savings Bank created the Sandy Hook School Support Fund. Money from the fund will provide support services to the families and community that have been affected. United Way of Western Connecticut, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is serving as the fiduciary for the Sandy Hook School Support Fund.
