Goncalves then went on to coach at Sacred Heart University as the assistant coach, where he helped lead the women’s team to an NEC Conference championship.
Goncalves started his playing career at Shelton High School, where he was named to the All SCC 2nd Team for the 2000 – 2001 season. He went on to play as a starter for the University of New Haven from 2002 – 2006. Post-college, Goncalves played professionally in Portugal for the Castelo da Maia 1st Division league.

"We are excited to add volleyball to our roster of sports," commented Ryan Equale, Assistant Executive Director, Chelsea Piers Connecticut. "Danny has achieved great success as both a player and a coach for both men and women. We think this experience combined with our facilities will create one of the leading volleyball programs for this area."
“I am very excited to bring my passion, dedication and enthusiasm for volleyball to Chelsea Piers Connecticut,” said Goncalves. “Our goal is to provide an enhanced volleyball experience for all skill levels and ages, a highlight of which will be our competitive and highly trained youth programs.”
