On Wednesday, November 21st, youth from the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford provided a Thanksgiving meal for approximately 300 of their fellow community members. Preparation for the meal began on Monday and Tuesday with Boys & Girls Club youth working diligently in the kitchen, generously refurbished by The Kiwanis Club. “We were overwhelmed by the generous contributions and volunteer hours from Planet Fuel Beverage Company, Avanti Enterprises, Nestle Waters, Fairway Market, Signature Construction, Banana Republic, Bimbo Bakeries USA, Aux Delices, Kids Helping Kids, St. Lukes School, SBC Restaurant & Brewery, Napa & Co., Comet Technologies USA and Johnson Controls”, stated Mike Cotela, the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club. This is the second year that the Boys & Girls Club youth, staff and volunteers have taken on this community project.
These youth have been participating in Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Healthy Habits Nutrition program, generously funded by the Anthem Foundation. This program included a nutrition curriculum, fitness activities, volunteer activities at Fairgate Farm and weekly culinary arts activities. The Anthem Foundation and Boys & Girls Clubs of America are committed to providing a healthy lifestyle and a pathway to a great future. Mike Cotela, Executive Director, stated “This is a tremendous example of our Boys & Girls Club youth working to improve their community and help provide for those less fortunate. We try to instill in our youth the responsibility of giving back to their community." Boys & Girls Club youth are looking forward to thelr next event, a holiday party on December 21st.
