Did you know that Thursday, Aug. 29, is Startup Across America Day 2013? U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy was scheduled to meet Wednesday in East Hartford with entrepreneurs who started businesses. In a news release, Murphy's office says, "Startups have proven to be a driver of economic growth in the United States, creating approximately 3 million jobs each year."

At the Ferguson Library, there's a French Book Discussion meetup at 6:30 p.m.

In local government goings-on, there's a Public Safety & Health Committee meeting taking place at the Stamford Government Center at 7 p.m.

Starting at 6:30 p.m. in Room 108, One University Place, at the corner of Washington Boulevard and Broad Street on the University of Connecticut’s Stamford campus, Rep. William Tong and Sen. Carlo Leone, co-chairs of the legislature’s Banks Committee, will host an informational meeting for homeowners on Connecticut’s foreclosure mediation program.

Thursday is the deadline for Stamford Youth Football Middle School Division sign-ups. The deadline does not apply to Trailblazers.
