The Westhill High School boys basketball team posted a wild 85-83 overtime victory over Norwalk on Wednesday to clinch an FCIAC playoff spot.

Mark Edwin scored the winning basket for the Vikings with two seconds left after Romario Narine made a four-point play for Westhill with eight seconds remaining.

Chris Walters scored 29 points for the Vikings (13-5, 12-4), who trailed by four with under 30 seconds remaining in overtime.

Tony Dobbinson scored 15 points and San Dorrisant added 11 for the Vikings, who trailed 11-0 early in the first quarter.

The loss damaged Norwalk's FCIAC playoff hopes as the Bears dropped to 10-9 and 9-8.

They fell despite a spectacular game by Ra'von Shular, who scored 28 points, including six 3-pointers.

Roy Kane Jr. scored 15 points and Rasheen Thompson added 10 for Norwalk, which led 57-54 after three quarters. The  contest was tied 79-79 after regulation.

The Stamford boys basketball team defeated Fairfield Warde 45-36 on Tuesday in a slow-paced game to keep their FCIAC playoff hopes alive.

Barry Boderick scored 19 points and brother Barry added 10 for the Black Knights, who improved 10-8 and 9-7. Warde dropped to 10-8 and 8-8.

Stamford's defense dominated early as the Black Knights jumped out to an 11-3 lead after the first quarter.

Warde pulled within 19-17 at the half, then tied it 31-31 after three, but the Black Knights put away the contest by outscoring the Mustangs 14-5 over the final eight minutes.

Michael Wright led Warde with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Sal Siciliano had eight points and seven rebounds.

Shawn Padilla had six rebounds and six blocks for Stamford, which climbed into a tie for sixth in the FCIAC standings with Greenwich and Bridgeport Central, who both lost on Wednesday.

The Norwalk girls basketball team rallied for a 58-50 victory over Westhill on Wednesday after trailing by four points in the third quarter.

Emma Oyomba scored 15 points and Alexis Noonan added 14 for the Bears, who finished the regular season 15-5 overall and 13-5 in the FCIAC.

Norwalk secured the No. 5 seed in the FCIAC playoffs and will play at No. 4 Wilton in the quarterfinals on Saturday (TBA) Norwalk lost to Wilton 48-40 on Jan. 19.

Erica Cohens added 13 for the Bears, who took control with a 17-10 spurt in the third quarter to open a 37-31 lead entering the final period. Westhill led 21-20 at the half.

Oyomba also grabbed 18 rebounds for Norwalk.

Megan D'Alessandro scored 17 points and Allyson Souza added 10 for Westhill, which finished the year at 10-10 and 9-9 heading into the state tournament.

In other playoff matchups on Saturday, No. 1 Danbury hosts No. 8, TBA, and No. 2 St. Joseph welcomes No. 7 Stamford at 5 p.m.

No. 3 Trumbull will be the home team against No. 6 Trinity Catholic, but the game will be played at Fairfield Ludlowe (2 p.m.) because Trumbull is hosting the Class LL wrestling state championship this weekend.

The Trinity Catholic boys hockey team continued its resurgence Wednesday with a 4-0 victory over Greenwich that enabled the Crusaders to clinch a state tournament berth.

Sean Dolan, Steven Lambrinakos, Kevin O'Reilly, John Shanahan scored for Trinity Catholic, which won its sixth straight game to improve to 8-10.

Vinny Scorese made 25 saves for Greenwich (3-15) while Kyle Odierno stopped 15 shots for Trinity Catholic, which improved to 6-3 in the FCIAC and holds the sixth and final spot in the playoff chase.

After a scoreless first period, the Crusaders scored three times and once in the final period.
