Stamford's Kids Helping Kids Raises Money to Fight Hunger

The group raised over $1,000 during it's second annual pancake breakfast.

The Stamford-based, child-run charity group Kids Helping Kids raised more than $1,000 Saturday morning to fight hunger during their second annual pancake breakfast.

Students ages 5 to 11 hosted the breakfast at Long Ridge School with the help of Kris Bria, Head of School, and helpful parents. Over 100 breakfasts were served raising more than $1,100.

The kids took turns seating hungry patrons, serving food and coffee, cleaning up, and running activities that included face-painting, tattoos, Valentines for Veterans, and a Graffiti Wall.

"I enjoy the events and being with my friends," said KHK member Eleanor Donohue. "And being able to lead the events together."

The pancake breakfast developed after the kids attended a Pura Vida-sponsored event called Feed My Starving Children and decided they wanted to help fight malnourishment and hunger around the world. The proceeds raised will be used to help host a "Feed My Starving Children Event" next summer.

The Parkway Diner, Scott’s Corner Market, Rye Ridge Deli, Bull’s Head Diner, International House of Pancakes, New Canaan Diner, Shop Rite and Stop & Shop all donated goods for the breakfast. Students delivered the leftover food to New Covenant House soup kitchen in Stamford.
