Rell: State to Invest $950,000 in Canopy for Glenbrook Station

The Bond Commission is expected to approve project on Dec. 10.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced Thursday that the state Bond Commssion is expected to approve $950,000 for a new canopy at the Glenbrook train station in Stamford on Dec. 10.

Located at 2 Crescent St. and 502 Glenbrook Road, the Glenbrook Station operates on the Metro-North's New Canaan line and features a 320-foot platform, which has waiting shelters, but no canopy.

"This enhancement will add to the comfort and safety of commuters," Gov. Rell said in a statement. "Whatever the weather, the canopy will offer much-needed shelter for the commuting public. My administration has made it a priority to get more people off the roads and into mass transit and this improvement will help in that effort."

The Department of Transportation is currently building a 400-foot, $1 million canopy at Springdale train station a mile-and-a-half away at 886 Hope St., which also operates on the New Canaan line. Work on the canopy began in April and was completed last month.
