Poll: 66 Percent Believe Illegal Immigration Hurts CT

A new poll commissioned by the Federation for American Immigration Reform reveals that most Connecticut residents believe overall immigration to the U.S. should be reduced.

Two-thirds, or 66 percent, of Connecticut residents that participated in a recent nationwide poll believe illegal immigration is hurting the Nutmeg State, according to a statement released by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

The poll, which was commissioned by FAIR and conducted by Pulse Opinion Research last month, also reveals that 67 percent of Connecticut voters oppose in-state tuition aid for illegal aliens looking to attend public universities. There is a bill currently being considered by the state that would allow children of undocumented immigrant aliens to qualify for in-state tuition.

State Sen. Toni Boucher, a Republican who represents Bethel, New Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield, Weston, Westport and Wilton in the 26th Senate District, told Patch last year that passing the bill would take away spots from citizens and legal aliens.

The poll also revealed that:

  • 68 percent believe the state should be involved in immigration enforcement
  • 39 percent believe illegal immigrants take jobs from American citizens, while 35 percent believe they fill jobs American workers will not do.
  • 51 percent support reducing overall immigration to the U.S.

"It is clear that elected officials in Connecticut and most of the state's congressional delegation in Washington are out of step with the views of the people who put them in office," Dan Stein, president of FAIR, said in the statement.

According to FAIR, there are 120,000 illegal aliens currently living in Connecticut with 85,680 of them in the workforce.

The illegal immigration would slow, or stop, if we enforced our existing laws against hiring undocumented immigrants and stopped blaming the wrong people. New immigrants have been taking the entry level, manual labor jobs for a very long time in this country and been terribly exploited for just as long. Find out, in your families, what kind of jobs your ancestors did when they first got here. Nothing has changed much. The folks with lots of money are always looking for the cheapest possible labor. Folks with no opportunity at home come here looking for a chance to get ahead. Any job looks better then none. Right now we complain about undocumented immigrants from Spanish speaking countries. Before that it was other groups, and the complaints were all the same. There is already law against hiring undocumented immigrants, with severe penalties, but nobody makes any effort to enforce it because the employers would then not be able to exploit the cheap labor. As much as we complain, we are not serious about stopping the exploitation.

And will anything be done about it? Of course not. Politicians like Malloy don't want to alienate a large voting block when they seek higher office. We have no leadership in this state.

And what do YOU propose? The current adminstration has done a better job of handling the problem that the previous one, whose supporters depended on cheap labor to fuel their bottom lines.

I propose we enforce the laws already on the books. Not an unreasonable thing to do.

What is happening is that the iilegals are overwhelming school districts, hospitals and drain public resources. Their children grow up in non-native English speaking households, so they are way behind those raised by native speakers. This drags the school performance scores down and ultimately raising property taxes and property values.

They have no health insurance, but the hospitals are forced to treat them for "free", which means we pay higher and higher premiums for less and less service so these mooches get free care.

These are very selfish people who come illegally to this country, do not pay taxes, send large chunks of their illicit gains back to their homelands, all the while sucking off the American taxpayers. They are lawbreakers and criminals.

Illegal immigrants steal jobs from the African American community and others. We do not need any more illegals to work in Dunkin Donuts or cut out lawns.

Can we please send them all back to their countries with all of their problems and their entitled children?

Well if you all learned your lesson then you wont be voting for Obama, if you didn't, prepare to have more of your money spent on illegal immigrants. Pretty soon, your children will have to learn spanish to keep up with the teaching trying to teach english to the illegal immigrants.
