NBC Sports is reportedly exploring the option of moving its operations from New York City to Stamford, and the former Clairol site on Blachley Road is reportedly being eyed as a possible location.

According to a post in Kevin Rennie’s news blog “Daily Ructions,” NBC Sports is "deep into site studies and planning" to relocate operations to Stamford — a move that could bring as many as 1,000 jobs to the city.

The 32-acre site, a former hair dye factory, was purchased last year for $16.75 million by real estate developers and a movie studio, with plans to convert part of it into a sound stage.

A report from NBC Connecticut, however, was unable to confirm that NBC Sports is planning to move from New York.

As reported by in May, Chelsea Piers Connecticut is building a 400,000-square-foot sports complex at the former Clairol site, which is expected to be completed in 2012. Despite that project, there is still ample room in the sprawling, 672,654-square-foot campus for a television studio/sound stage.
