2012 MLK All About Education Day

Saturday at 10 am

University of Connecticut-Stamford

A program to celebrate MLK by showcasing local educational resources — including over 50 organizations providing information on scholarships, after school programs, tutoring, childcare, financial aid, and college applications. The day is free and open to the public. View full schedule here.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Beardsley Zoo

Monday from 9 am—4 pm

Beardsley Zoo

Take advantage of a day off from work and school to take the family up to the Beardsley Zoo. The Zoo is honoring the civil rights leader’s life and achievements by offering $5 admission for all ages.

9th Annual MLK Day of Service

Saturday starting at 8:45 am

Trailblazers Academy

Service for Peace will hold its 9th Annual Day of Service this Saturday, kicking off their season of service with projects taking place throughout the spring. Volunteers will participate in a variety of service projects in the community (transportation provided). At 3 pm, volunteers will meet back at Trailblazers for personal reflections and a birthday celebration. This year’s theme is “Communities of Peace – Connecting People to Peace through Service” Volunteers can register on the website or by emailing twilliams@serviceforpeaceorg.

Martin Luther King Day Kids Program

Monday from 10am—2 pm

Westport Historical Society

Westport artist, writer, and activist Tracy Sugarman will share her artwork and experiences from the Civil Rights Movement. Elizabeth DeVoll will lead a workshop including games, drama, art and music to celebrate freedom and tolerance. Participants will create a 3D peace sign. $60 Non-Member, $50 Member, ages 6-11, limited enrollment, to register, call 203-222-1424.

MLK Jr. Birthday Celebration

Saturday from 9 pm—2 am

Hibernian Hall (186 Greyrock Place)

The Norwalk-Stamford chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and the Zeta Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity will present their 3rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebration on Saturday night. The party will include DJ, hors d’oeuvres, and cash bar. All proceeds benefit their scholarship funds. MLK March and Rally to End the Death Penalty in Stamford
Monday, January 16, 2012, 10:00am until 1:00pm

Meet at Bethel AME church in Stamford (150 Fairfield Ave.) at 10 am
March begins at Bethel AME at 10:45 am and ends at Yerwood center (90 Fairfield Ave.)
Talks on several topics, including the death penalty, will begin at 12 pm

Partnering with the CNADP on this event will be the Stamford NAACP,
Stamford-Norwalk Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, and SEIU
32BJ.

We hope to see you there to March for Repeal and honor Dr. King's legacy!
