At all of these parking lots there are never more than a handful of empty spots. All you are going to accomplish by waiving the parking rules is to allow people from (fill in the blank) to park in a spot paid for by a person who lives in (fill in the blank.) So people who commute after 745am will have no where to park. Solving nothing except transferring the problem from one person to the next.
Jim--think this through. It's not like , for example, Noroton Heights has an extra 200 spots that go idle.

Or we could just apply simple common sense if you like. The Federal fuel tax hasn't been raised since Bill Clinton was President 20 year ago. Nothing costs the same today as it did 20 years ago.
And I'm fully aware of who subsidizes the drivers, it's We The People. The same people who subsidize bus riders and train riders and fliers and ferry riders, etc. But clearly Godbully wasn't aware that there were even subsidies for drivers, which is why I pointed out to him that drivers get subsidies just like train riders get subsidies. Where it comes from is irrelevant to that fact. A subsidy is a subsidy!
As for those labor unions, you just made a great argument for doing away with the roads & highways. I'm no fan of unions myself, but blaming them for everything is also wrong. Unions exist today only because employers used to take advantage of employees. Yes, that tide has turned some and today there are unions that take advantage of the employer.
And I wouldn't argue that it shouldn't be made illegal for a politician to accept any favors, kickbacks, or even campaign donations from major corporations & donors.

Some esoteric figure that you mined on some weird cite? Who do you…Read More think 'subsidizes 'we' drivers? Please dont say 'government'--when its us drivers that are paying all the gas taxes, sales taxes on cars, income taxes , tolls, registrations/licenses / speeding tickets etc. You wanna know what is subsidized? The labor unions that are able to charge 6-10 times labor rates as compared to construction/ lawn/ etc/ Ask how much a grass cutter makes when working for the dept of public works--and then ask what a normal private citizen pays on a per hour basis. Or ask what your local landscaper pays his workers? Cost is a bad basis to describe subsidies on. These politicians who get their kickbacks and favors in exchange for screwing the taxpayer/driver is what should be addressed. But in any event --why not tell me who subsidizes drivers ,so I can have a good laugh.

If we drivers were actually fully paying for our highways directly, trains wouldn't need public assistance.
